S690QL
Quenched and tempered plate: 690 MPa yield up to 50 mm, 770–940 MPa tensile, 30 J at −40 °C — about twice S355.
For cranes, mobile machines, booms and heavily loaded bridge parts where weight matters. Q is tested at −20 °C, QL at −40 °C, QL1 at −60 °C. Weld with controlled heat input; hot forming above 560 °C spoils the temper.

What to watch
- Guaranteed yield strength depends on thickness: 690 MPa for 3–50 mm, down to 630 MPa for 100–200 mm.
- Not yet sourced: A second source for the 50–100 mm values; Design rules: EN 1993-1-12.

S690QL in other standards
Full comparison“Equivalent” tables online usually match grades by name. This one compares the values each standard actually guarantees, so a 30 MPa gap in yield is visible before it is in your calculation.
| Grade | Standard | Min. yield at 10 mm | Tensile at 10 mm | Match | What differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S690QL | ≥ 690MPa1 | 770–940MPa1 | — | Reference grade. | |
| A514 Grade Q | ≥ 690MPa1 | 760–895MPa1 | Close match | Same 690 MPa (100 ksi) minimum up to 2.5 in, but A514 has no standard impact test and its 90 ksi step comes at 63.5 mm, not 50 mm. |

With any other gradeSources here are public pages that reproduce EN 10025-6. For design and acceptance, the standard edition named in your specification and the inspection certificate (EN 10204 3.1) of the delivered product take precedence. Design factors are recommended values; your National Annex may set others.
