A514 Grade Q

US quenched and tempered plate: 100 ksi (690 MPa) yield up to 2.5 in, 90 ksi above, 110–130 ksi tensile.

Each A514 grade letter is a chemistry limited to a maximum thickness; Grade Q goes to 6 in. No impact test unless ordered as a supplement.

What to watch

  • Guaranteed yield strength depends on thickness: 690 MPa for 4.7–63.5 mm, down to 620 MPa for 63.5–152 mm.
  • As a substitute for S690QL: Same 690 MPa (100 ksi) minimum up to 2.5 in, but A514 has no standard impact test and its 90 ksi step comes at 63.5 mm, not 50 mm.
